Cheryl Simcox, MA, LPC, NCC

TX license # 92780

I didn't start out as a counselor — I started out as a registered nurse.

For years, I cared for people in some of their most vulnerable moments. I learned to listen carefully, to notice what wasn't being said, and to meet people exactly where they were. When I made the transition to counseling, I brought all of that with me.

I'm also a wife and a mom to adult children. Which means I don't just understand the seasons of life my clients are navigating — I've lived them. The strain that quietly creeps into a marriage. The heartbreak of watching an adult child struggle. The exhaustion of being pulled in every direction by the people you love most. These aren't abstract concepts to me. They're real life.

That's why I do this work.

I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Sam Houston State University and am a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor. I'm trained in the Gottman Method for couples therapy — one of the most research-backed approaches available — and I'm a certified Prepare/Enrich Facilitator, which I use with couples building their foundation before marriage. I also draw from Brainspotting, CBT, Polyvagal Theory, and Emotionally Focused approaches depending on what fits you best.

My style is compassionate and goal-oriented. I'll listen deeply, reflect back what I notice, and help you make sense of what's happening beneath the surface. And then we'll get practical — because insight without tools doesn't change much.

I see individuals and couples in person in Montgomery and surrounding area, and also offer telehealth sessions for added flexibility. I'm in-network with Aetna, Cigna, BCBS, and UHC.

If you're ready to stop just getting through it and start actually working on it, I'd love to connect. Reach out for a free 15-minute consultation — let's see if we're a good fit.

Why work with me?

-

Why work with me? -

1.

Experience you can trust

I'm not observing your life from the outside — I'm someone who has navigated the hard seasons of marriage, parented adult children, and felt the pull of competing family demands. That lived experience shapes the way I listen and the way I show up for you in session.

2.

Personalized approach

There's no one-size-fits-all in counseling — and Cheryl doesn't pretend there is. She draws from a range of evidence-based methods to build an approach that fits you, your story, and what you're actually trying to work through. Where you are today shapes where we start.

3.

A private safe space

Whatever you bring into the room — the things you've never said out loud, the feelings you can't quite name, the situations that feel too complicated to explain — you'll be met with zero judgment here. Just genuine empathy, a listening ear, and a counselor who is fully in your corner.

Whether struggling with your adjustment to motherhood, perinatal mental health symptoms, pregnancy loss, or your child needs extra support to learn emotional regulation, expand their window of tolerance or process trauma. You are not alone. Deciding to go to counseling takes a huge step of courage. Therefore, connecting with your therapist and feeling comfortable sharing your heart is a top priority. I will meet you where you are and provide a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Together we will work to process your thoughts and feelings during life's challenging moments and move you closer to living a life you value.
